First Trip with Camper

Reading the title of this blog, you might be thinking, "That's CRAZY!" I think this all the time when my husband and I pack up for the summer to go camping in our Rockwood Mini-lite 2109S. Our camper is only 22 feet long, which is the perfect size for a couple with no kids. The thing is, we have FOUR DOGS!

First Trip 2017
My husband and I are both teachers so we look forward to traveling every summer. Our first venture out was is 2017 when we traveled to Gulf Shores, Alabama. At that time, we just had 3 dogs, which is still too many to have in a camper of our size; we had two small dogs and one large dog (terriers and Labrador). On the way, we stopped and stayed at Poverty Point Reservoir State Park in Louisiana.

We stayed here for a couple of nights before heading to Alabama. When arriving in Alabama, we spent a week at Pandion Ridge RV Resort with friends. It was a fairly new RV park. Personally, I wouldn't recommend it if you want more a homey feel. We're not really the RV park type, we realized. When we began to go around to all the beaches, we found our very quickly that the beaches were NOT dog friendly. There were signs posted everywhere. That was very disappointing because we would've loved taking them to the beach to catch some waves. Most of our time was spent in the camper with them. Don't get me wrong, they have dog parks, but that's not what we wanted. We had to do some research to find a place for them to go and play in the water. Since we were very close to Pensacola, Florida, we found a small area of "beach" (not really a beach) that we could take them to play in the water. This area was probably 6 feet of "beach" behind someone's house inside a gated playground area. One of our dogs kept going into the background of the house that was right by the "beach" which was very frustrating. I'm sure that are some places in Florida and Alabama that are welcoming to dogs, but we weren't anywhere near them.

Second Trip (same year)
After our stay at this RV park, we decided to go to Surfside Beach, Texas which is about 45 miles northeast of Galveston, Texas. We were very pleased with our stay in this small town. We stayed at the Beachfront RV Resort. It was LITERALLY a walk away from the beach. We really enjoyed that RV park. The only thing that was a disappointment was the fact that they didn't have restrooms/showers/laundry room. Also, the water was awful. I'm not sure if things have changed, but when we stayed there back in 2017, it was very salty--even with out water filter attached. They did, however, have a restaurant on site that had a restroom that you go to, but no shower. I know that we have a camper with a shower, but it's nice to be able to stretch out and take a shower. Anyway, when the restaurant was closed, so was the restroom.  The restaurant was nice because they have a place that you can eat that overlooks the ocean.

The beaches here are dog friendly, which is the case for Texas beaches. We would definitely come here again, but probably won't be camping in Alabama any time soon.
